ACHIEVING THE UNACHIEVABLE

In 1956 Escher twisted the laws of perspective in his lithograph "Print Gallery"; but was incapable of finishing the center of the image. Years later Douglas Hofstadter claimed the solution was impossible. Earlier this decade mathematician Hendrik Lenstra solved the enigma both mathematically and artistically. The tale of filling in the center of "Print Gallery" as well as an overview of Escher's oeuvre is presented in the award-winning film "Achieving the Unachievable" by documentary filmmaker Jean Bergeron.
